How To Clean a White Leather Couch
OMG! OMG! OMG! You just noticed an ink stain on your white leather couch. Who knows how long it’s been there? Who knows how much it will cost to get out? OMG!!
First, take a deep breath. Second, if you learn how to clean a white leather couch, you may be able to avoid costly services to clean your leather furniture.
In keeping your leather sofa stain-free, it helps to practice some preventative maintenance.
You should regularly clean the couch. Wipe the sofa weekly with a microfibre cloth to get rid of dust and dirt that can dull the finish. For deeper cleaning, use a leather cleaner according to the instructions on the label, and finish that with a leather conditioner. You can even mix your own cleaning solution by adding a few drops of vinegar and a few drops of dish soap to some warm water.
If you mix your own solution, soak some of the solution into a clean, damp cloth and wipe the leather in a circular motion. Dampen a second clean cloth with water and wipe away the cleaning solution.
You should also wipe away spills as soon as possible. Have cloths ready for just such a disaster. When the spill happens, grab a cloth and wipe the spill asap.
Try These Ways of Removing Stains from White Leather
These methods can work on other leather living room, dining room or bedroom furniture.
- Ink Stains – Put some nail polish remover or rubbing alcohol on a cotton swab and dab the stain. Definitely don’t rub or wipe it around because the loosened ink can spread into a larger stain.
- Oil & Grease – Get rid of oil and grease stains by sprinkling them with baking soda or cornstarch. Leave it for at least eight hours and it will soak up the oil and grease. Wipe it away with a dampened soft cloth.
- Scuffs – Scuffs can be one of the toughest things to clean from leather. Dampened the scuffed area with water. Blot the scuff with non-gel toothpaste and gently rub the stain with a soft toothbrush.
- General Stains – This one is only for white leather. A 1:1 mix of lemon juice and cream of tartar will give you an effective cleaning paste. Put some paste on the stain, wait for 30 minutes for the paste to lift the stain and wipe it away with a damp sponge or cloth. The paste has a bit of a bleaching effect that might appear on darker coloured leather couches.
